Duodenal
Ulcers (=Peptic Ulcers) Information and Tips
Duodenal Ulcers are peptic ulcers.
Peptic Ulcers are ulcers in the stomach or the duodenal.
People
usually develop duodenal ulcers between the ages of 30 and 50. Stomach
ulcers usually develop later, around the age of 60.
Duodenal
ulcers occur more frequently in men, stomach ulcers develop more often
in women.
The Helicobacter Pylori (h.
pylori) bacterium is responsible for most duodenal ulcers.
In the US, 30% of the
adult population is infected with h. pylori. Researchers are not
sure how people get infected with the bacterium, but they assume it is
accumulated in the body through food and water. However, h.
pylori can also be transmitted through person-to-person contact.
Having h. pylori does not necessarily
mean that a person will develop a duodenal ulcer, but chances are a lot
higher.
The
treatments for stomach ulcers and duodenal ulcers are usually the same.
