Active
Manuka Honey is a medicinal honey collected from the
flower of the wild tea tree bush in New Zealand. Active Manuka
Honey has been extensively researched by Dr. Molan (Senior Lecturer
Biochemistry Department, Waikato University, New Zealand) for over 20
years. Dr. Molan has found that Active Manuka Honey seems to
naturally destroy staph aureus and streptococcus pyogenes (common
bacteria present in sore and strep throats, tonsillitis and colds) as
well as h. pylori (helicobacter pylori), the bacteria responsible
for stomach and duodenal ulcers (peptic ulcers). |

Research:
Dr. Peter Molan,
Senior Lecturer at the Waikato University in New Zealand
discovered the honey's natural ability
destroy h. pylori bacteria. He named this property
UMF.
The UMF activity has been described by Molan and Russell
(1998) and Allen (1991). The mysterious substance has so far not been identified. Westen (1999) found that the activity was not caused by the phenolics
(including flavonoids) found in the honey.
Research has shown a link between gastritis and peptic ulcers and the
bacteria Helicobacter Pylori. Manuka Honey with UMF activity, and
other honey with peroxide activity, were both tested in laboratory
cultures again helicobacter pylori. Only Manuka Honey showed
inhibition against the bacteria, with complete inhibition shown at
5% honey concentration (Al Somal 1994).

Our current UMF
Rating
Our current honey in stock has a
UMF Rating of 19.8.
The UMF Rating changes every season, as does the weather (cold / hot /
wet summers) in New Zealand where the honey is collected.

"I felt like I had to yawn all the time, so I went to my doctor for the
regular check-up. I told my doctor about the frequent yawning. My doctor
had me tested for h. pylori, which tested positive. This was in
December, 2 years ago. My doctor prescribed me a very strong antibiotic
for about 2 weeks, but it made me quite sick because it was so strong.
After 6 months I was re-tested for h. pylori. The h. pylori count did
come down some, but it still tested positive.
My husband received a laptop for Christmas. I asked him to research h.
pylori. He found this website. I ordered the honey and took 4 teaspoons
a day. I was also taking Aciphex at the time, and found that it was too
much together with the manuka honey, so I reduced the amount of honey to
2 teaspoons a day and still found it effective. I had myself retested
after 9 months and the h.pylori result came back NEGATIVE."
